Awkward by chmakova svetlana7/8/2023 ![]() Peppi’s the new girl in town, and right away, she makes a major flub, tripping and falling into a nerdy guy in the hallway, earning herself the nickname of “nerder girlfriend.” And how does she handle it? By shoving the nerdy guy so hard that he falls. Since he’d already read it (we asked him about it later on), it went on my shelf, and I picked it up one night after I’d run out of library books. It looked new-ish in 2015, he would’ve been 12/13, so this book would’ve been perfect for him back then. Apparently my son had left it stuffed in the seat pocket at some point. “Probably,” I said, and tossed it in the bag. ![]() ![]() ![]() “Is this Brother’s book?” (Even looking at the screen right now, she said, “Hey, Brother has that book!”) A year or so ago, my daughter and I were cleaning out the car, and she pulls a copy of Awkward by Svetlana Chmakova (JY, 2015) out of the pockets on the back of one of the front seats. ![]()

"Sketching Character" is a P&P variation that contains many twists and turns some of these changes are familiar to a JAFF reader and a few are quite original in their execution. What pure happiness I experienced as I was able to actually read some of the most beautiful scenes between Darcy and Elizabeth at Rosings Park and run through the woods in such a captivating manner! ![]() ![]() Imagine my joy when Pamela Lynne wrote "Sketching Character" and gifted us with plenty of those swoon-worthy scenes in the woods of Rosings Park. I also wished that Andrew Davies would've elaborated on these scenes when he wrote the screenplay for the 1995 BBC version of "Pride & Prejudice." But it was not to be… How did Elizabeth not see Darcy's admiration for her after meeting her there "accidentally" three times? I have pondered that question many times. Ever since I reread "Pride & Prejudice" last year, I have longed to read more about those three mysterious times during Elizabeth's and Darcy's visits to Rosings, where Darcy happened to meet Elizabeth during her early morning rambles… It was a part of P&P that I wished Austen would have written for us with more details in regards to their time spent together. ![]() Moominland midwinter7/7/2023 ![]() “ One has to discover everything for oneself. ![]() There is a palpable trepidation in the air, as if we might be facing a long, lonely, bitterly cold winter. Moominland Midwinter (or Trollvinter) is the fifth title in Tove Jansson’s series of stories about a family of benevolent, philosophical trolls with downy fur and soft round snouts, who reside in a rather unusual house in an attractive woodland valley by the sea. “ All was silent, nothing stirred, and slender stars were shining everywhere and twinkling in the ice. ![]() ( 28 ) My second Janssonian contribution to the Tove Trove Library. ![]() TOVE TROVE: Moominland Midwinter by Tove Jansson Home › Translated Literature › TOVE TROVE: Moominland Midwinter by Tove Jansson ![]() Me talk pretty7/7/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() In the book Sedaris observes some odd situations and finds himself in some even stranger predicaments. I remember it feeling like the stars were aligning- my favorite author was coming out with a book that was aligned to my scholarly interests and also represented my own mental illness. At this event, he revealed his new book Turtles All the Way Down, read the first chapter, and even talked about his own experiences with OCD. As a reward to myself when I finished my thesis, I bought myself a ticket to see John Green speak at an author event in Cleveland, OH. This book means so much to me, and I think it is important (and maybe even interesting) to start with my relationship with this novel.ĭuring my MA program, I completed my thesis on representations of OCD in young adult literature. In some ways, this review will be the easiest I write. Tags: obsessive-compulsive disorder, medication, friendship, romantic relationships, realistic fiction, mystery ![]() |
